Crater Lake

To celebrate my 5th year anniversary with Jake we went backcountry camping at Crater Lake! It is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We hiked into the most insane camp spot I have ever been. After we set up camp we headed to the historic Crater Lake Lodge for a 5 star meal! They use all local organic ingredients, I had orange roasted duck and Jake had steak! Yummy!
Waking up with the most insane view we decided we had to get down to the water. We took a boat out to Wizard island where we swam and floated in some of the worlds clearest water. We also got an awesome tour of the inside of Crater Lake.
The caldera is nearly 2000ft deep, making Crater Lake the deepest lake in the United States and the 7th deepest in the world. It was the 5th national park established in the U.S. The clarity of water was rated number one in the world a few years ago. You can see 90-100ft deep! Crater Lake was once Mount Mazama. When it erupted and collapsed the ashes were spread all the way to Colorado. Another eruption created Wizard Island. This sealed off the bottom of the caldera allowing Crater Lake to be what it is today! It is truly one of the most spectacular places in the world. I highly recommend going there if you get the chance. It just reminds me how powerful our Earth can really be.
With love ~ Lisa
